Everton are considering a possible summer swoop for West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

The Portuguese midfielder is someone who is very highly rated by Bruno Fernandes as speculation over his future grows.

David Moyes has been linked with players from his former club since returning to Everton, but Fernandes is a new name on the radar.

Everton face strong competition in the race for Fernandes, with six other Premier League clubs also named in the running.

With Manchester United also in the race to sign the 21-year-old midfielder, their own Fernandes, Bruno, has shared his approval of his compatriot.

After Mateus made his Portugal debut last week, Bruno took to Instagram to share his praise.

“Many more to come, kid,” said the United midfielder.

The worry for Everton may now be that Bruno could play a big role in helping Mateus move from London to Manchester.

The Friedkin Group will back Everton in the summer window following what was a quiet winter period for the club.

However, the Toffees could find themselves needing to secure European qualification to unlock a certain ilk of player like Fernandes.

Most of the clubs named in the running for the midfielder are likely going to be able to offer the 21-year-old the opportunity to play in Europe next season.

Everton are working on two separate transfer plans: one for European football and one without.
