Manchester City are one of the sides showing an interest in signing West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes ahead of the summer transfer window, according to a report from Football Insider.
Fernandes could be one of the hottest topics in the upcoming summer window, particularly if West Ham are relegated from the Premier League.
The Portuguese midfielder has flourished with the Hammers following his move from Southampton, becoming one of their most important players at a young age.
Fernandes is still only 21, but he's already developed into a key player for West Ham, playing 29 times in England's top flight this season.
He's now attracting interest from other clubs in the Premier League, and West Ham could face a fight to keep him, regardless of what league they are playing in.

According to Football Insider, Manchester City are one of the sides showing an interest in signing West Ham midfielder Fernandes ahead of the summer transfer window.
“Mateus Fernandes has regularly been West Ham’s best player. When that is the case for any team who are at risk of relegation, it’s going to inspire interest from some of the bigger clubs in the Premier League. He’s now made his first appearance from Portugal, and that will have added to the interest in him. Man City are one of the clubs having a look at him, and one thing there is Bernardo Silva is going to be leaving at the end of the season. So they’re looking at a few midfielders who could come in and help to ease the burden of his exit."
Fernandes, who has been described as 'elite', is attracting interest from a number of clubs in England, which is no surprise considering the performances he's produced for the Hammers this season.
Fernandes Destined for Big Club
Mateus Fernandes
Considering the impact Fernandes is already making at Premier League level, he's surely destined to make the move to a big club in the near future.
If the Hammers' relegation is confirmed, a departure feels almost guaranteed, but big clubs are starting to sniff around him already.
At the age of 21, Fernandes is already a midfielder who looks comfortable and capable of playing in Europe, not just the Premier League, and he's yet to reach his full potential.
Whether he could become a guaranteed starter at Manchester City immediately remains to be seen, but it's no surprise to see them taking a look at him.
