After another lacklustre half of football, Liverpool fans called on Steven Gerrard to become the club's interim manager to replace Arne Slot in the Champions League clash with PSG.

The head coach changed around his system, opting for a back five at the Parc des Princes, in the hope that a different setup would produce a different result from the struggles they have encountered in recent months.

That wasn't the case, however, when Desire Doue opened the scoring after just 11 minutes, with a deflected strike looping over the head of Giorgi Mamardashvili and into the back of the net.

Liverpool did little to trouble PSG, going into the break behind, with fans on social media calling for a change in head coach at the break to bring Gerrard into the mix as interim coach, which would see him leave the TNT Sports set where he was covering the team's struggles.

One supporter said on social media: "Can Gerrard hop in to replace Slot for the second half?" while another said: "Gerrard is in the studio BTW, give him the second half."

"If I was Liverpool I'd be sacking Slot at half time right now and appointing Gerrard as interim and having him in touchline for second half! I'm done with this negative b******s," another frustrated fan said in an expletive review of the half.

The clamour for Gerrard continued as a fan added: "Gerrard is literally in the stadium, our best chance here is to change managers during half time."

Another fan claimed: "Even if you appoint Steven Gerrard as interim coach, it won’t be worse than this. You can see a shambolic performance from them in the first half."

It shows the level of frustration that Liverpool fans have with Slot, as pressure continues to ramp up on the head coach, with a few supporters looking at possible solutions to deal with the difficult run the team has been on.

It seems unlikely that the board will make a change so hastily, with a second leg against PSG to come at Anfield, but that could end any hope of silverware unless there's an improvement.

Liverpool are out of all the domestic cup competitions, while the Premier League title is out of sight, leaving a top-five finish the best-case scenario to ensure qualification in the Champions League once again.

Despite the difficulties, and the mounting pressure on Slot, the manager backed the side to show resilience in tough moments before the match at PSG, as he told the press: "I cannot debate that [performances have been inconsistent]. That is completely true. The performances have been inconsistent all season.

"I think the answer lies in the history of Liverpool. This club has always shown in tough moments, they stand up again. We've had a lot of tough moments and stood up a few times."

The team will need to show that same ability to stand up when they take on PSG in the second leg, otherwise there will be even more doubt surrounding the future of the head coach.
