'The most lively': Paul Robinson names one Liverpool player who really turned up against PSG

Jeremie Frimpong has been praised for being a standout performer for Liverpool during their Champions League defeat against Paris Saint-Germain.

Arne Slot surprised just about everybody by going with a new system in Paris, deploying a back three, with Frimpong tasked with playing a right wing-back role.

Although it has often been put forward as his best position, it was the first time Liverpool fans have seen the Dutchman play in such a formation since his summer arrival, and according to former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, he did a great job.

Do you still think Liverpool can turn the quarter-final around at Anfield?

2-0 down vs PSG, it's going to be some ask from here…

Frimpong was a standout performer for Liverpool

With three central defenders protecting him, and space to run into on the right wing, Frimpong was given licence to attack against PSG.

That’s exactly what he did, with Robinson impressed by the 25-year-old’s first-half performance.

“Liverpool have had three good opportunities. The three times they have got in behind it has been Jeremie Frimpong in behind,” the pundit told BBC Sport.

“Frimpong has been the most lively for Liverpool.”

After a mixed performance away at the Parc des Princes, there will be plenty of debate surrounding Slot’s decision to change shape against PSG.

It feels unlikely that Liverpool will be using the same system as their go-to for the rest of the season, but given where they currently find themselves, it might not be the worst decision in the world.

In Frimpong, they have someone who is clearly at home in this formation, and if he can hone his final ball at times, the £29m signing can be a difference-maker.
