Leeds United still have a bit to do if they are to secure Premier League safety but summer blueprints will already be drafted for whichever scenario unfolds.

The Whites have destiny in their own hands, currently sitting four points clear of the drop zone with seven league games left to play and only one current top nine side left to face. After travelling to Old Trafford on Monday, Leeds will face none for the final six games.

Should Leeds stay up, then there are a number of issues that need to be resolved this summer including the goalkeeper department, a back-up left-back and a creative midfielder. They also need to think about sales too, having struggled to get fees for some of their players last year.

As a result, many - though not all - were loaned out with optional purchase clauses albeit it seems unlikely many, if any, will get triggered.

Of course, if United get relegated then the transfer picture changes, and Leeds may decide to keep players on who might have otherwise been let go. But if Leeds do stay up, here is what could happen to those in the senior squad currently loaned out.

Joe Gelhardt

Contract: 2027

Last week, Gelhardt said he would sign for loan club Hull City now if he had the chance to, stating he ‘loves’ it at the play-off chasing Tigers. Should Leeds go down, then more haze hovers over what Leeds will do given his 13 Championship goals this season.

Daniel Farke hardly used Gelhardt during the first half of last season, prior to his first spell at Hull - but if Leeds are relegated, the club may look to hunt for a replacement. Who knows what the stance of the new manager might be. But if Leeds stay up, Gelhardt will likely go.

Verdict: Leave

Largie Ramazani

Contract: 2028

Similarly, if Farke stays at the helm and Leeds survive it is hard to see Ramazani staying, having been left out of the squad entirely against Arsenal before his exit. The board, though, rate him highly which is why there is no buy-out clause in his loan deal.

Four goals in his last seven Valencia games is something for Farke to look at and consider. Ramazani might be one that the manager decides to assess him in pre-season, possibly as a back-up to Noah Okafor as the secondary striker/winger role.

Though, Ramazani is now playing regular football in a top five European division, which he probably wouldn’t do while at Leeds. So it could be the player who decides to look elsewhere.

Verdict: Leave

Jack Harrison

Contract: 2028

Harrison was brought back in and offered a second chance by Farke but has not gone to plan and it seems likely that he is moved on, especially if Leeds stick with the back-three system. Harrison was seen more as a wing-back but struggled in the role.

The winger is playing regularly for Fiorentina and says his loan move has opened his mind to new possibilities. He himself has admitted his Leeds future is not secure.

Verdict: Leave

Mateo Joseph

Contract: 2028

Joseph is a favourite of Paraag Marathe, but the striker’s relationship with Farke has become strained given his refusal to join up for pre-season camp in Germany and subsequent comments upon his loan exit to Mallorca.

It is not outlandish to suggest that if Farke remains in post, Joseph does not play for Leeds next season given how highly the manager rates team cohesion and character value. The board might be reluctant to sell him though given his age of 22 and theoretically potential, so another loan might be in the offing.

Verdict: Leave

Max Wober

Contract: 2027

Wober will almost certainly be back at Leeds after a disastrous time at Werder Bremen that has been dogged by injury. He has played just one cup game and none at all in the Bundesliga.

His small buy-out purchase option will not be triggered and so Leeds will try to sell him this summer without an on-the-books loss, which will be challenging.

There may be a similar conclusion drawn as last summer but Leeds might well look to agree to end his contract early if the player obliges, which is no guarantee.

Verdict: Leave

Isaac Schmidt

Contract: 2028

Ironically, Schmidt would probably suit this wing-back system better than the back-four used before his loan to Werder Bremen. Leeds have enough cover at right-back, though, and as for the left, Farke likes left-footed options as a rule - Schmidt is right-footed.

And the reality is that he is struggling to get into the Bremen side and was left out of the last Switzerland squad. His concerning pre-season performances indicate his ability to cope at the top level, having hardly started in the Championship, might not be what is required.

Verdict: Leave

Harry Gray

Contract: Not known

Gray penned his first professional deal with Leeds in October shortly after turning 17, and while the length was not disclosed it was described as long term. There is no way Leeds are allowing him to be sold this summer.

Article continues below

In January, Gray secured a loan move to Rotherham United and scored twice in his first four games at the League One club and has generally impressed in his first prolonged stint in senior football. Leeds are keen to shield him from pressure but have high hopes for the striker.

Verdict: Keep
