'Why not': Ibrahima Konate wants the Premier League to change their rules after Liverpool lose to PSG

It’s not like PSG needed any advantage over Liverpool, but they have one that makes overcoming this two-goal deficit all the more difficult.

Liverpool have to dust themselves off after being played off the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night, with Fulham just around the corner. As for the Parisians, they have a full week off now to rest, recharge, and strategise closing out this tie at Anfield next week.

That’s because PSG’s clash with Lens was postponed until after this quarter-final tie, and that’s where Ibrahima Konate takes issue. He thinks Premier League sides should be granted this same advantage to keep things fair.

Do you still think Liverpool can turn the quarter-final around at Anfield?

2-0 down vs PSG, it's going to be some ask from here…

Ibrahima Konate thinks Liverpool’s Premier League fixture should have been postponed

Konate can hold his head higher than most after the loss. He made a couple of goal-saving challenges and looked the most comfortable of Liverpool’s centre-backs in Arne Slot’s back-three system against PSG.

He was asked for his thoughts on the game in the aftermath by Stan Sport, and was specifically asked about the controversial postponement given to the current European champions.

He said: “”Yeah, I think this is two times in a row because last season it was the same. I wish we had the same thing in Premier League, but it’s completely different.

“And in a way, I’m happy for them because it’s good for them, and I think the league helped them to reach something in the Champions League, and I hope in the Premier League they’re gonna do the same in the future, or why not this season for the team.”

There’s no arguing against the Premier League being a far bigger competition than Ligue 1, both commercially and by viewership, but the unwillingness to reschedule in this way puts English teams at a disadvantage.

Fulham pose a serious challenge to a Liverpool side that is really struggling right now. It makes the idea of a classic Anfield comeback less realistic.

Konate puts pressure on Arne Slot to find PSG solution

The Frenchman carried on by discussing what Liverpool need to do to turn the tie on its head.

For him, it’s on Arne Slot.

As he explains: “It was tough for us to find a solution, to shoot, to find the target. But this is the work of the manager now to see what we can improve and what we can change for the game at home, and we will see.”

Would any Liverpool players realistically get into PSG’s starting XI?

Surely we've got no chance against them 😣

Slot’s tactical gamble against PSG did not work. It was as dominant a performance as an opposition side has produced against the Reds in his tenure.

Going back to Merseyside, something has to change. Especially needing two goals, it’s going to have to be much different, and much better.

First, though, it’s Fulham on Saturday.
