Leeds United can boast of one of the oldest stadiums in England, and as a club, they can boast of success that few have achieved. Their status in English football continues to be one of the best in the modern day.
The club’s size and loyal fanbase is the reason why the 49ers completed a full takeover a few years ago. The ownership wanted to leverage Leeds’ standing in English football to return them to past glory. A club that has lifted the domestic league, FA Cup and a European cup is not easy to find across England’s top division.

The Whites have had some gifted talents play for them, with some considered legends in English football. Billy Bremner, Jack Charlton and Eddie Gray have all played for this historic club.
Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney snub Leeds United legend
Tony Yeboah is considered one of the club’s best players in the Premier League era. He spent two seasons with Leeds United, but made a huge impact in that time, including scoring one of the most memorable goals in the competitions history. So when Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney were discussing the Premier League’s greatest goals and snubbed both of Yeboah’s stunning strikes, it was a bit confusing.
The former Premier League duo were speaking on The Overlap show, and brushed over Tony Yeboah when discussing the goals.
“Tony Yeboah volley against Liverpool? It was good” Neville said.
Rooney added: “He scored one against Wimbledon as well.”
They believe Paolo Di Canio and Paul Scholes scored better goals than Tony Yeboah also.
Neville continued: “The top three Premier League goals ever are, Di Canio (scissor kick for West Ham), Paul Scholes’ volley against Middlesbrough and Dennis Bergkamp’s goal against Newcastle. I’ve never seen it since or before.”
Wayne Rooney also ranked Robin Van Persie’s effort against Aston Villa higher than Tony Yeboah’s goals.
“For me, Robin van Persie’s volley against Aston Villa is the best goal… That was Robin’s hat-trick, to win the Premier League, it’s the best one.”

Tony Yeboah was overlooked in Premier League conversation
Tony Yeboah is a household name in West Yorkshire; his spectacular goals for the club are the reason he is famous in England. Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville can continue to have their opinion otherwise, but when any Premier League fan remembers Yeboah, they think of one thing – the volley against Liverpool. It is actually a bit disrespectful to have none of the forward’s timeless goals in the list when discussing the best goals of the era.
