Crystal Palace have been dealt a fresh injury blow ahead of their Premier League match against Newcastle United.

Crystal Palace are set to be without Eddie Nketiah for their Premier League clash against Newcastle United on Sunday.

The £35million-rated former Arsenal striker has been sidelined since December but was set to be available for Palace’s Europa Conference League quarter-final first-leg tie at home to Italian side Fiorentina.

Nketiah completed the majority of Wednesday’s training session but suffered a recurrence of his hamstring just two minutes before the end. It is now feared that the 26-year-old could miss the rest of the campaign.

Eagles boss Oliver Glasner said: “It’s how football is, because it looked like everybody was available for tomorrow’s until two minutes before the end of the session [today].

“Eddie unfortunately injured his hamstring again and had to leave the pitch two minutes before the end of the game. He won’t make tomorrow’s squad. He will have a scan again, but it doesn’t really look good for him.

“All the others are available. We trained, on Sunday, with 23 on-field players for the first time since the start of this season – but it is how it is.

“Of course he was very disappointed and we are really suffering with him. As a player you always think the worst thing is when you don’t play, when you don’t start, but the worst thing is when you are injured and have setbacks, and that makes it very tough for Eddie.

“He will have all our support to come back hopefully before the end of the season, but we will know more tomorrow.”

Adam Wharton set to feature v Newcastle United

In better news for Palace, midfielder Adam Wharton has been passed fit, despite withdrawing from the England last week with a “minor” injury.

“He had a minor adductor issue with England but it’s all sorted,” Glasner explained. “He trained the whole week and is available tomorrow.

“The England team managed the minutes very well and so we are pleased that Adam also got a little bit of a break, and then started to prepare for the Fiorentina game by Sunday.”
