"Poor again"- Jamie Carragher has ripped into Liverpool player who has been"awful all season"

**Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher hasn’t held back in his criticism of Ibrahima Konate, following the Reds’ 2-0 loss at Paris Saint-Germain.**

Arne Slot’s side may not have been as bad as they were away to Manchester City last weekend, but this still wasn’t a huge amount better.

Once again, far too many Liverpool players underperformed, with Konate error-strewn and arguably fortunate not to concede a penalty in stoppage time.

Speaking on CBS Sports \[via [_Football365_](https://www.football365.com/news/carragher-rips-slot-awful-liverpool-277-rant-most-uncomfrtable-van-dijk)\] after the game, Carragher blamed Konate for making Virgil van Dijk struggle in Paris, with Slot’s change of formation not working:

_“Because they went man-to-man all over the pitch and your three centre-backs had to cover the width of the pitch and for Virgil van Dijk watching him tonight in a middle of a back three… normally when you get to a certain age you feel in the middle of a back three is perfect, everyone’s in position, getting a bit of protection. This was different._

_“Defenders were jumping into midfield, there was no one to mark and Virgil van Dijk at 34 years of age was having to run in there and he was having to run across. He couldn’t do it._

_“People have criticised Van Dijk for his performances this season but I think it’s been harsh. I think he plays every game, the fella next to him has been awful all season and poor again tonight, Konate, makes a mistake every game, so that’s not easy to play alongside, so I still think he’s been one of Liverpool’s better players, Virgil van Dijk.”_

**Is it good for Liverpool if Ibrahima Konate signs new deal?**

---------------------------------------------------------------

Konate has had a disastrous season – the loss of his father may have played a part, in fairness – making even Van Dijk look average next to him.

On his day, the Frenchman is fantastic, but there are far too many bad performances thrown in, which isn’t good enough for someone who some see as the future of Liverpool’s defence.

Konate is yet to sign a contract extension at Anfield, but on this season’s evidence, some supporters would likely be happy to see him move on.

If he does end up staying, it wouldn’t be a bad thing, but he must find a new, more consistent gear if he wants to be seen as a future Liverpool great.
