Brilliant£65M star with 18-assists this season makes big Liverpool transfer admission

Former Liverpool forward Luis Díaz has openly reflected on his decision to leave Anfield last summer, insisting that his move to Bayern Munich was the “right choice” for his career as he continues to shine in Germany.

Díaz, who left LIVERPOOL in July 2025 in a reported €75 million (£65 million) transfer to Bayern – just weeks after helping the Reds to Premier League glory – has flourished with his new club. The Colombian attacker has been a standout performer for Vincent Kompany’s side, scoring frequently and contributing with plenty of assists across all competitions during the current season.

Speaking to ESPN, Díaz described his decision to join Bayern as a defining moment in his career, Diaz told ESPN: “Deciding to join Bayern was the right choice. I’m really happy and I enjoy every match. I feel great, I’m in good shape, and that means I’m ready to help the team.

‘We have a clear plan, we’re a very close-knit group, and that shows on the pitch.”

At Liverpool, Díaz enjoyed a successful spell, featuring prominently in the title-winning 2024-25 season. His decision to seek a new challenge in Germany followed stalled contract extension talks and a desire for a fresh chapter after three and a half years at Anfield.

Liverpool’s hierarchy initially resisted selling Díaz, rejecting Bayern’s early approaches and publicly valuing him highly, but eventually agreed to the move when the Colombian made his intentions clear.

Why Liverpool Could Be Regretting Letting Díaz Go

From a Reds perspective, letting a player of Díaz’s calibre leave for Munich could prove costly. At his peak, Díaz combined blistering speed with creativity and goal scoring – attributes LIVERPOOL have struggled to consistently replace this season.

Without him, Liverpool’s attacking dynamics have looked less potent and more predictable, with key chances often lacking the incisiveness Díaz provided. Moreover, his ability to destabilise defences and perform in big matches was pivotal in their title run, and losing that edge may partly explain Liverpool’s inconsistent form in 2025-26.

While the fee Liverpool received was substantial, the market offers few players with Díaz’s unique blend of qualities. Supporters are increasingly feeling the loss as Bayern benefit weekly from what was once a Reds mainstay.
