Jamie Carragher delivered a blunt assessment of Florian Wirtz following Liverpool's 2-0 Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain - a remark that left fellow pundit Thierry Henry roaring with laughter. Wirtz has struggled to adapt since his hefty transfer from Bayer Leverkusen.

The 22-year-old featured for 80 minutes at the Parc des Princes, though his performance proved insufficient to alter the outcome. Carragher has called on the German to raise his game, while also emphasising that Liverpool's recent signings appear uncertain about the standards expected of them.

During CBS Sports ' regular Champions League analysis, Carragher said: "Listen, we've said the same the whole season.

"Three legendary players come to the end of their career, new players coming in and not quite knowing exactly what they need to do to play for Liverpool right now.

"I include [Alexander] Isak who came on there again, [Hugo] Ekitike and Wirtz, who has got to do an awful lot more. An awful lot more.

"The best way you can describe Wirtz right now - he's cost £125million - is that he's neat and tidy."

Henry erupted in laughter as Carragher concluded his brief outburst.

Meanwhile, Wirtz acknowledges that his performances haven't reached the required standard but feels he has navigated the toughest period and can now contribute to lifting the Reds. "I know that they paid a lot for me," he told TNT Sports.

"I still think that I'm improving, it was a difficult start for me because I wanted to impact the team immediately.

"I have to accept it, I'm feeling very good now on a physical level. I'm feeling good in England now because this was a big change for me."

"Now I'm trying to make the team better."
