'Shown interest': West Ham target 6’4″ midfielder as ideal Tomas Soucek successor

West Ham have reportedly entered the race to sign Jens Hjerto-Dahl from Norwegian club Tromso this summer.

Hjeto-Dahl is wanted by several European teams, including Wolves, Benfica and Sporting, after some impressive recent form.

The goalscoring midfielder would be the perfect replacement for 31-year-old Tomas Soucek at the London Stadium.

West Ham target Jens Hjerto-Dahl for summer transfer window

Jens Hjerto-Dahl has previously been linked with a move away from Tromso, having shown promising signs over the past few seasons.

The Norway under-21 international turned down an £8 million move to Besiktas in the January transfer window.

“With all due respect to Turkey, of course, Jens Hjerto-Dahl is not going there. He is going to a far better league than that,” said Norwegian football expert Jesper Mathisen.

Hjerto-Dahl now has more suitors after his incredible start to the 2026 Eliteserien season, scoring four goals in two games.

His goalscoring form included a hat-trick of headers against Fredrikstad FK in a 4-0 Tromso win on the opening day.

Norwegian outlet TV 2 is now reporting that West Ham, Wolves, Benfica, Sporting and Hamburg are all interested in a summer move.

“If he was worth around 100 million (£8m) this winter, I guess his first matches so far this year have meant that Tromso can demand at least 150 million (£12m) for him now,” Mathisen added.

£12m still represents fantastic value for a 6-foot-4 central midfielder with technical ability and an eye for a goal.

As Soucek potentially nears the end of his West Ham career, certainly as a regular starter, Hjerto-Dahl could be his successor.

Especially without a consistent ‘number nine’, goals from midfield are crucial to ease pressure on the front line.

So, the Hammers should sign the 20-year-old before it is too late.
