Arne Slot has had the backing of FSG despite Liverpool’s struggles this season, but the latest blow against PSG is calling that stance into question.
The result itself wasn’t the issue against PSG. Conceding just two goals at their home ground is actually a lot better than many were expecting. But the nature of the performance was concerning, and Liverpool fans are on Slot’s case.
Liverpool’s 4-0 loss to Man City at the weekend wasn’t enough to sway opinion amongst the hierarchy, but there has been a shift. They’ve gone quiet about the Dutchman’s future.

Dom King suggests Arne Slot’s position at Liverpool is becoming less secure
We have said it all season. FSG’s backing only goes so far if the results aren’t coming. For Slot, the results aren’t coming.
There is a limit to what the club can tolerate, and Liverpool journalist Dom King’s latest update suggests that limit is approaching.
He said on talkSPORT the morning after PSG: “Liverpool are not saying anything about his future at the moment.
“They’re with him – that was the message again at the weekend but you know, the situation that I find difficult for him is the depth of feeling within the fan base and it’s how you turn that around because if he can’t turn that around, it’s not sustainable.”

The contacts King has at Anfield have gone quiet about the Dutchman’s future. While the weekend’s stance was one of support, he couldn’t clearly get that impression after Wednesday night’s performance.
And he’s right. The fan sentiment around Slot is becoming dangerously hostile. Even if the club were planning to keep him around regardless of how the season finishes, fan power in football is a real thing. If they turn on the manager, that’s a difficult situation to salvage.
Arne Slot running out of steam at Liverpool
From his own perspective, King thinks Slot is feeling the effects of Liverpool’s woes. The challenging nature of the season has taken its toll.
As he puts it: “it’s wearing him down. I think he just looks, exasperated might not be the right word, but you understand what I mean. He’s just sort of at his wits’ end.
“There are problems all over the pitch. I don’t think he knows what to do in terms of how to stop it, and you know, everything that he’s trying isn’t working.”

It’s a shame to see Slot struggling in this manner. Whatever you think of him now, this is the man who brought Liverpool a Premier League title in his first season. Back in May, every fan would have said he’s ideally positioned to take us forward into a new era.
The difference a year can make.
