Manchester United handed double fitness boost ahead of Leeds United clash

Manchester United have been handed a double fitness boost ahead of their battle with bitter rivals Leeds United.

The clubs will do battle under the Old Trafford lights on Monday (April 13) as they fight very different battles in the Premier League.

Third-placed Manchester United are looking to secure their spot in the top four, while 15th-placed Leeds are scrapping to stay out of the bottom three.

The clubs last met in January, when Leeds held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw at Elland Road.

Manchester United team news

Michael Carrick’s men have been training in Dublin and have welcomed defender Lisandro Martinez and playmaker Mason Mount back into the fold after injury issues.

However, the Red Devils will have to do without the suspended Harry Maguire.

Carrick told Manchester United’s in-house media team: “It's (the break) actually worked in our favour in some ways, in terms of getting players back. Mason’s in and around it as well, in training and he’s had that period of time to build that up.

“To have Licha (Martinez) in and around it again is good. Obviously, Harry’s going to miss the game so we’ve got Licha back around it, with Leny [Yoro] and Ayden [Heaven], and we just want to get stronger as a group really. So that's part of this, trying to use that to do that this week."

Attacking duo Byran Mbuemo and Benjamin Sesko withdrew from their respective international squads but both are in line to face Leeds. Matthijs de Ligt, however, will miss out.

Leeds United back to their bread and butter

The fixture will mark a return to Premier League action for Leeds, who had FA Cup duties last weekend.

However, midfielder Anton Stach looks likely to miss the Old Trafford trip having been forced off with an injury in the first half at the London Stadium.
