Scotland teammates Lewis Ferguson and John McGinn will battle it out for a place in the final four of the Europa League as Bologna host Aston Villa in the quarter-final on Thursday night.
The international teammates are expected to lead the teams out as captains of their respective sides as they look for a first-leg advantage at the Renato Dall'Ara Stadium in northern Italy. The second leg is set to be played at Villa Park next week.
Having ended Bologna’s 51-year wait for a domestic trophy by lifting the Coppa Italia last year, Ferguson is hoping he can bring further glory to the Rossoblu this season, but he will know the size of the task at hand, with McGinn’s Aston Villa having already beaten his side in the League Phase of the competition earlier this year.
“Our fans are pushing us like they always do,” said Bologna boss Vincenzo Italiano ahead of the game. “In the last three years, year after year, we made history. We have another opportunity to make history again. I know that there is a big preparation for this game in terms of support. Of course, we will need it and we will be proud for this game.”
