Report: How Eddie Howe is feeling about Newcastle's expected rebuild

It remains to be seen if Eddie Howe stays at Newcastle United – but he is up for the challenge of rebuilding his team.

Howe’s long-term future at Newcastle United is uncertain after CEO David Hopkinson claimed that the club would “talk about the future when it’s time”.

There’s no suggestion that Howe will be replaced in the dugout at Newcastle imminently, but that phrasing is certainly interesting.

Still, for his part, Howe is ready to undertake a sizeable challenge on Tyneside.

Newcastle set to rebuild squad and Howe is on board

According to BBC Sport, Howe is committed to overseeing what is expected to be a major overhaul this summer.

Indeed, Newcastle are expected to rebuild their squad this summer, with key players tipped for an exit.

All of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento have been linked with moves away.

Howe was always concerned that Alexander Isak’s departure would have a detrimental impact on his Newcastle squad, and that has so far proven to be the case.

Again, there’s nothing to say that any of the aforementioned players will go to the lengths that Isak did, but it’s clear that the Sweden star’s exit has had an impact.

Why Newcastle’s rebuild is seriously exciting

This Newcastle team have run out of steam, but the whole PIF project does not have to be written off.

The challenge that the club have is adequately replacing players, rather than blindly suggesting they are not for sale at any price.

Quite whether or not Howe is the right man for Newcastle is up for debate. It’s easy to see why some would doubt him, but those who do back him after all he’s done have a point too.

Wherever one stands on Howe, it’s refreshing to hear that he’s ready to embrace the challenge if he is indeed the man the club trust to oversee the rebuild.

For so long last summer, the club were fighting against change. Now, it’s time to welcome it.

Newcastle can come again.
