West Ham enter race to hijack "remarkable" midfielder who's been speaking to Rangers

West Ham United have now joined the race to sign Tromso IL midfielder Jens Hjerto Dahl, who has held talks to join Scottish Premiership side Rangers.

Hammers eyeing summer signings ahead of crucial Wolves clash

West Ham have a golden opportunity to move outside the Premier League relegation zone on Friday night, as they host bottom of the table Wolverhampton Wanderers at the London Stadium.

Nuno's side head into the game off the back of a disappointing defeat against Leeds United in the FA Cup quarter-final, but the manager is confident his side will be able to bounce back, saying: "We had a difficult couple of days after Leeds, because we had a lot of hope and belief that we could reach Wembley.

"It was disappointing, but at the same time, we showed a good reaction in the game, and that we can fight. We didn’t give up right until the end, and now we move forward, realising that our major fight starts on Friday. We are aware of the situation, but we are confident and we believe in each other."

Should the Hammers defeat Rob Edwards' side, they will move up to 17th place, two points clear of rivals Tottenham Hotspur, which is an added incentive heading into the game.

West Ham United's Jarrod Bowen celebrates after the match

The calibre of player West Ham will be able to sign this summer is dependent on whether they are able to avoid the drop, but they have now entered the race to sign Hjerto Dahl, who is also being targeted by Celtic, Rangers, Besiktas, Wolves, Benfica, Sporting CP and Hamburg SV.

The Hammers hold an advantage over Besiktas in the race for his signature, according to pundit Jesper Mathisen, who said: "With all due respect to Turkey; of course, Jens Hjertø-Dahl is not going there. He is going to a far better league than that."

The Gers' interest appears to be relatively advanced, having recently held talks, but the Hammers are now trying to hijack the deal for the midfielder, who has four goals to his name in two Eliteserien matches this season.

Scout Drin Gashi is also a keen admirer of the 20-year-old, who is valued at €13.4m (£12m), saying: "He is a smooth player with excellent ball control and a refined first touch. Naturally, these attributes make him a skilled dribbler as well. Despite his young age, his composure is already at a high level. Furthermore, his vision and decision-making on the pitch are truly remarkable."

Regardless of whether West Ham remain in the Premier League, a summer rebuild could be on the cards, with it recently emerging they could be set to cash-in on Crysencio Summerville for a very low fee this summer, amid interest from Tottenham.

Mateus Fernandes has also been attracting plenty of attention, with Liverpool the latest club to be named as potential suitors, and the Hammers have set a lofty asking price.
