'Very unlikely': £35m West Ham loanee makes big summer transfer decision

West Ham loanee Edson Alvarez has reportedly just made a big decision on his long-term future.

Alvarez’s loan at Turkish club Fenerbahce has not gone to plan, having missed several months with an ankle injury.

It seems unlikely that he will return to the London Stadium next season, paving the way for him to move elsewhere.

Edson Alvarez not interested in Mexico return in summer transfer window

Edson Alvarez has not done enough to convince Fenerbahce to make his loan move permanent this summer.

The Hammers have also not been proven wrong for letting him go, suggesting that he will soon need to seek another club.

Well, the Mexican midfielder has been heavily linked with a return to the biggest team in his native country, Club America.

Alvarez came through America’s academy before making over 100 appearances for the senior team between 2016 and 2019.

A return to Mexico would likely be incredibly popular, but he has other ideas for his next transfer.

America Monumental reports that he is “very unlikely” to rejoin his former club, as he wants to stay in Europe.

Despite some persistent ankle injuries this season, the 28-year-old will feel like he has a lot more to offer at the highest level.

Perhaps a return to his other old team, Ajax, would be a more realistic option for Alvarez after the World Cup.
