Leeds United take on Manchester United on Monday with a squad that looks down to its bare bones following Daniel Farke’s latest injury news.
United’s Premier League survival bid gets back underway this Monday with a trip to Old Trafford looming for Daniel Farke and his side.
While we ought to be buoyed off the back of FA Cup progress to the semi-final, Farke’s latest injury news from the Leeds camp is as brutal as it gets.
Leeds United injury news confirmed pre-Man U: Stach, James, Rodon ruled out – Three doubts
It’s hardly a shock to see that Anton Stach is ruled out for this week. And, he’s out likely for the rest of April after a horror tackle from West Ham’s Max Kilman. Disgracefully, it wasn’t deemed a foul.
Joining Stach on the treatment table with ankle ligament damage and a likewise injury absence is Joe Rodon. The Welshman rolled his ankle in the same game and is set for a spell on the sidelines.
Dan James is the third absence, ruled out prior to kick-off against West Ham with adductor issues.
On top of three confirmed absentees, Farke also revealed that Jaka Bijol and Noah Okafor are doubts for the game. They have both missed training with respective concerns this week.
Lastly, Gabriel Gudmundsson is also a doubt, as the Leeds boss revealed he’s returned to training since missing
Daniel Farke reveals chances of Jaka Bijol, Noah Okafor, Gabriel Gudmundsson featuring vs Man U
A six-man injury update like this is hardly the news you want before a trip to our arch rivals.
However, if the three injury doubts make it through training over the weekend and are fit to feature, it softens the blow significantly.
Looking at Bijol, Okafor, and Gudmundsson specifically, Farke holds out hope that the game being on Monday gives all three chance to recover.
“A few more question marks, Jaka Bijol struggling with a knock, not in team training this week,” Farke revealed, per the YEP. “Noah Okafor is struggling with back problems and not in team training.
“Gabi Gudmundsson made some progress, light groin problems after the international break but all three are doubts.
“Thank God the game is on Monday.”
Massive injury crisis for Leeds United – Will Daniel Farke be able to call upon Okafor, Bijol or Gudmundsson?
Just as you think there’s chance to be optimistic about Leeds’ end to the season, this club cuts you down to size.
Nothing can ever be straightforward. These injuries couldn’t have come at a worse time for us, given the importance of our run-in.
The best case scenario is these three ‘doubts’ being passed fit to play on Monday. Because, their availability could make this injury crisis look a lot better than it does right now.
Missing all six would be devastating.
