Leeds United striker Mateo Joseph could be out for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury on loan at RCD Mallorca.
Estadio Deportivo report that Mallorca are facing a ‘serious setback’ after Joseph limped out of Mallorca’s latest training session with an injury that could sideline him until the end of the season.
According to the newspaper, Mallorca fear that the Leeds striker has suffered a serious knee injury.
Injury alarm bells sounded
Mateo Joseph joined on loan from Leeds in the summer. He’s made 29 appearances in La Liga this season, with two goals and four assists to date.
But he is now facing a major blow. During the latest training session led by Martin Demichelis, the Spanish striker suffered a problem with a join that forced him to seek ‘urgent medical attention’ from the club’s doctors.
Tests have already been carried out, with both parties awaiting the final results. The initial findings are ‘very worrying’, though. Alarm bells have been sounded.
Mallorca confirm injury concern
Mallorca have since confirmed that the player suffered a knee injury during training. The injury has required medical tests to determine the issue.
The initial prognosis is not optimistic. There is a possibility that the Leeds man may have injured his ligaments, which would require surgery and a prolonged absence.
Everything suggests, at this point, that the Leeds loanee will miss the remainder of the season.
As he’s on loan, Mallorca will have to coordinate the next steps with Leeds. One of the options being considered is that Joseph returns to England for Leeds to supervise his recovery.

The injury is a significant blow for Mateo Joseph and Mallorca. He’s become a valuable asset in the club’s attacking rotation, forming a good partnership with top goalscorer Vedat Muriqi.
The 23-year-old has even openly admitted that he would like to extend the loan spell for another season. Now, he faces a prolonged injury lay off instead.
