Final shot: Man Utd star sends passionate World Cup plea to manager

Former Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has candidly admitted that the upcoming World Cup could be the final chapter of his international career.

Once written off by many, Maguire has re-established himself as a vital figure at Old Trafford over the past two years.

He has been in stunning form under head coach Michael Carrick, forcing Thomas Tuchel to select him in the England squad for the two international games last month.

The 33-year-old is “desperate” to be part of the World Cup squad.

He said (via The Sun): “I think it would be my last World Cup for my country. I am desperate to go, whatever role the manager would want me for.

“Whether that’s starting or whether it is deciding games late on. I still believe, even at my age, I am arguably one of the best defenders in the world in both boxes. I don’t think that’s in question, really.”

England need Harry Maguire

The United centre-back was one of the very few England players who delivered impressive performances in the recent international break.

We believe that the Three Lions need Maguire to be part of their squad.

Tuchel recently admitted that Maguire is a fifth-choice in the centre-back pecking order. He stated that Ezri Konsa, Marcus Guehi, Trevoh Chalobah and John Stones are ahead of him on the list.

Stones has struggled with persistent fitness issues this season. Chalobah has yet to produce performances that convincingly place him above Maguire in the defensive hierarchy.

His vast experience in high-pressure matches for both club and country adds another invaluable dimension to his game. That level of composure and leadership is something England simply cannot afford to overlook.

If fully fit, there is a compelling case for Tuchel to include Maguire in the 26-man squad for the World Cup in the United States.
