Liverpool are planning a move to replace Mohamed Salah with an exciting winger who Arne Slot knows very well, according to Daily Mail reporter Lewis Steele.
The legendary Egyptian announced last month that he will leave Anfield at the end of the season following nine years with the club, despite having another year remaining on his contract on Merseyside.
Now the Reds have begun their plans to find a replacement ahead of the summer transfer window, and a familiar face to Liverpool fans and Slot has emerged as someone who will be considered as an option to come into the club and strengthen their attack for next season.
Liverpool Eyeing Brighton Star Yankuba Minteh
Brighton's Yankuba Minteh celebrating
According to a fresh report, Liverpool are considering making a move to sign Brighton star Yankuba Minteh this summer to replace Salah.
Minteh, who has been described as 'dazzling' and a 'wing wizard', worked under Slot at Feyenoord and enjoyed a fine campaign in the Eredivisie, notching 11 goals and registering five assists in 37 appearances for the club, before he made a move to join the Seagulls for £33m.
Over the last 18 months the Gambia international has continued his impressive development at the Amex Stadium, and while it's understood that the player has 'fallen in love' with Brighton, he would find it difficult to turn down a move to an elite side.
The 21-year-old is settled on the south coast, and it's believed Brighton would likely look to double the £33m they paid to sign him permanently from Newcastle if they are to let him move on. Liverpool have cash to spend this summer, but are hoping to qualify for the Champions League to ensure their budget isn't effected.
Minteh Could Fit New Liverpool Model
Arne Slot
It's understood that Liverpool have identified the need to bring in a different type of winger to replace Salah, with the ability to beat opponents in one v one situations seen as key for modern football.
Slot is a big fan of that type of player too, and reuniting him with Minteh could help him to improve results following a disappointing campaign, while also helping the winger to develop and improve.
GIVEMESPORT asked Google Gemini to rate the potential transfer out of ten, and this was its response:
Rating: 8/10
Minteh is a high-potential fit. Having excelled under Arne Slot at Feyenoord, he understands the system perfectly. At 21, his explosive pace and pressing make him an ideal long-term heir to Mohamed Salah, though Brighton’s high valuation and his developing end product are the only minor drawbacks.
