Fair play to Jarrod Bowen, who’s once again shown he’s a thoroughly top bloke.
The West Ham captain has stepped in to support his former club Hereford FC by helping fund a new drainage system at Edgar Street — a gesture that says plenty about the man.
Bowen steps in to help former club
Hereford have endured a nightmare winter, with multiple home fixtures postponed due to waterlogged conditions.
It got so bad they were forced to play “home” games at alternative venues, with a backlog quickly building up.
Relief at Edgar Street after difficult spell
Relief finally came last month when Hereford returned to Edgar Street for the first time since January. Now, thanks in part to Bowen’s contribution, proper work can begin.

The plan is to overhaul the pitch drainage during the off-season, with everything in place ahead of the 2026/27 campaign — hopefully putting an end to the disruption. In literal terms, they’ll be fixing the pitch while the sun is shining.

Personal connection makes it even more meaningful
Bowen’s link to Hereford runs deeper than just his early career. His uncle works as the club’s groundsman, making the situation even more personal and underlining his connection to the club.
Speaking about the decision, Bowen described it as a “fantastic opportunity” to give something back, particularly after seeing first-hand the challenges caused by the pitch issues.
A timely reminder off the pitch
It’s a nice touch, especially given Bowen has plenty on his plate with West Ham’s survival battle and a potential World Cup with England.
