Liverpool are licking their wounds after being outclassed by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday evening. The Reds were comfortably beaten 2-0 at the Parc des Princes in the first leg encounter.
Goals from Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave dominant PSG a thoroughly deserved win as Arne Slot's side served up another tepid performance. The fallout has been brutal, with the Reds' toothless performance roundly criticised.
Another curiosity of the evening was the spectre of club hero Mohamed Salah being left on the bench for the duration of the evening. Today's news sees the Egyptian star's professionalism called out while a Liverpool star has put the solution to the team's current woes squarely on Slot's shoulders.
Gerrard praises Salah
Steven Gerrard has praised Mohamed Salah's professionalism, conceding the Liverpool winger will have been massively frustrated having sat out the action in the French capital. On a night where Liverpool didn't muster a single shot on target, the club's third all-time top scorer was conspicuously absent from on-pitch proceedings.
The 33-year-old recently announced his exit at the end of the season and hit out at his manager back in December, having become irritated at being left out of the side.
Former midfielder Gerrard claimed Salah's vigorous cool down after the PSG fixture displayed how he has his eye on a Premier League clash with Fulham this weekend, highlighting his first-class dedication.
Asked on TNT Sports how he would be feeling in the same situation, the ex-Reds captain said: "Frustrated, because I think he'll be sitting there thinking, 'I back myself to influence this game and improve proceedings.'

"Certainly from a going forward point of view. So I think he'll be a little bit sad and frustrated but credit to him, he's just stayed behind there and done extra running.
"Because if there wasn't a mid-week game, Wednesday would probably be your big session so in his mind he's already got his mind on Fulham and he's doing extra work, which shows the pro and the mentality that you're dealing with."
Konate issues Slot plea
Liverpool centre-back Konate's post-match comments appeared to subtly place the emphasis on Slot to solve the season-long puzzle that's been the team's dramatically poor form. The French star admitted the game against PSG was "tough" with the defender struggling to find his footing in a new-look back three.
Speaking after the defeat in Paris, Konate said: "What do I think of the result tonight? For sure I'm not happy. I know we have another game at Anfield, it's our home, anything can happen there and we have to make sure we are ready for the game on Saturday.

"After we’re going to think more about that game against PSG. I think PSG, like last season, [are] one of the best teams in the world. They show it again today.
"It was tough for us to find a solution to find the target but this is the work of the manager now to see what we can improve, what we can change for the game at home and we will see."
The second leg between Liverpool and PSG will take place next Tuesday, April 14 with the Reds needing an old-fashioned Anfield comeback if they have any designs on reaching the semi-finals.
