**As Newcastle United supporters, we’re certainly not big fans of PSR or any other financial restrictions placed upon the game.**
When other clubs have come before and spent wildly, unrestricted, Newcastle finally get the richest backers in world football, and all the doors are slammed in our faces.
As if that’s not bad enough, though, despite our wealthy backers, we were forced to sell one of our star assets a couple of years ago to comply with overly restrictive rules.
Elliot Anderson [was sold to Nottingham Forest for just £35 million](https://www.nufcblog.co.uk/2024/07/01/newcastle-announce-vlachodimos-anderson-and-minteh-deals-official-confirmation/). Nobody wanted the deal to happen, and everybody believed that the fee was way too low for a player of Anderson’s potential, which has already proven to be true.
Now an England starter, the former Newcastle midfielder is being heavily talked about in terms of bagging a huge money move in the summer to someone like Manchester United or Man City, but Newcastle’s name does keep popping up in some conversations.
Ex-Toon striker Alan Shearer has talked about a potential return for Anderson with Betfair (via [Newcastle World](https://www.newcastleworld.com/sport/football/newcastle-united/alan-shearer-newcastle-united-elliot-anderson-nottingham-forest-6569148)), and while he’d love to see Anderson back on Tyneside, the very idea that Newcastle would have to pay through the nose to bring him home has incensed the England legend.
> _“Elliot Anderson will have plenty of interest in the summer if he is available. I guess Newcastle will be back in for him as well, which just puts a sour taste in your mouth because again, we go back to the PSR and what it was brought in for and what it was meant to do._
>
> _“It wasn’t designed for you to sell your local players; it wasn’t brought in for that. So, I don’t like what you have to do with it. But there’s no doubt that he’s flourished since he left Newcastle._
>
> _“He’s going to be a starter for England in the World Cup, which will also enhance his reputation. He’s a very, very good player. He’s shown that this season. He’s been given the opportunity at Nottingham Forest, has grabbed it with both hands and flourished. It would not surprise me._
>
> _“I guess it all depends on what happens with Nottingham Forest as well, if they get relegated and what have you. That’s one to keep an eye on. But if he does make it known he wants to leave, then there’ll be no shortage of clubs that are after him.”_
