Newcastle United 19y/o wonderkid spotted in training as Bruno Guimaraes returns ahead of…

Newcastle United injuries: Eddie Howe is hoping for a couple of injury boosts ahead of Sunday’s trip to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

The Magpies lost their previous match 2-1 at home to rivals Sunderland before the March international break. It’s given Eddie Howe time to reflect and some players time to recover in an attempt to salvage the 2025/26 season with seven games left to play.

Newcastle currently sit 12th in the table but European football is still a possibility if the side can end the season well. While United have finished in the top seven in every full season under Howe, they have not secured consecutive European qualifications.

But with a less demanding fixture schedule and a few key players expected to return from injury, it is hoped Newcastle’s fortunes will improve as a result.

Lewis Miley boost

One key player on course to return this weekend is 19-year-old midfielder, Lewis Miley. Miley has been out since January with a thigh injury that was initially diagnosed as a dead leg before further assessment found something more serious and potentially season-ending without the correct care and rehabilitation.

But Miley has used the three-week break to his advantage and has been spotted back on the training ground.

In footage released by the club ahead of the trip to Selhurst Park, Miley could be seen training with the main group, with a clip showing him scoring a goal past Nick Pope at Darsley Park.

Miley established himself as a key player in the side prior to his injury and his expected return will be seen as a big boost for Howe and his side.

Bruno Guimaraes & Fabian Schar

Another player spotted back on the grass was captain Bruno Guimaraes. The Brazilian has been out for almost two months with a hamstring injury, but is thought to be closing in on a return.

It’s unclear whether Sunday’s trip will come too soon for the Brazilian, with Howe expected to provide further injury updates in his Friday morning press conference.

Fabian Schar is another big player closing in on a return after three months out with an ankle injury that required surgery. The Palace match was seen as a target for the defender, though he was not spotted with the training group in the footage and images released by the club.
