Andy Robertson has announced that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season and he will leave a significant void.

Another Liverpool legend has announced that the end is nigh.

After Mohamed Salah confirmed he will bring the curtain down on his Anfield career at the end of the season, Andy Robertson has followed suit. In truth, it comes as little surprise. With his contract expiring in June and his role diminished following the arrival of Milos Kerkez, an exit feels inevitable.

Now 32, Robertson will believe he still has plenty left to offer. His openness to a move to Tottenham Hotspur in January only reinforced the sense that his time at Liverpool was drawing to a close. He departs as a bona fide club legend. Signed for just £8 million from Hull City in 2017, Robertson proved one of the great bargains of the modern era, winning eight major honours—including two Premier League titles and the Champions League. At his peak, he was arguably the finest left-back in world football.

Replacing him will be no easy task. With Kostas Tsimikas currently on loan at AS Roma, Liverpool may look not only for depth but for genuine competition to Kerkez. Here are a few options who could fit the bill.

El Hadji Malick Diouf – West Ham Liverpool once capitalised on Hull’s relegation to sign Robertson on the cheap - could history repeat itself? If West Ham go down, they may be forced to sell key assets.

Diouf has impressed in his debut season at the London Stadium following his move from Slavia Prague. The Senegal international has started 23 of 25 league games, contributing five assists. Quick, direct, and attack-minded, he possesses the qualities needed to break down stubborn defences. He also played a role in Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph earlier this year, albeit one later overshadowed by controversy.

Myles Lewis-Skelly – Arsenal Liverpool have not done business with Arsenal since signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in 2017—but that could change.

While Arsenal may be hesitant to strengthen a title rival, the right offer could tempt them. Lewis-Skelly, still only 19, has found opportunities limited, starting just once in the Premier League this season. A move could accelerate his development.

As an academy graduate, any sale would represent pure profit for Arsenal, while his homegrown status makes him an attractive option for Liverpool’s squad planning.

Neco Williams – Nottingham Forest A return to Merseyside for Neco Williams should not be ruled out. Since leaving Liverpool in 2022, the Wales international has flourished at Nottingham Forest, racking up 150 appearances and helping secure Europa League qualification last season.

Though naturally a right-back, Williams has excelled on the left, offering versatility that would appeal to Liverpool - especially given the injury records of Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong. At 24, he is entering his prime, though with a contract running until 2030, he would command a significant fee - unless Forest suffer relegation.

Antonee Robinson – Fulham Few full-backs have been as consistently impressive in the Premier League in recent years. It is somewhat surprising Robinson remains at Fulham given the level of interest he has attracted.

The USA international recorded 10 assists in 37 league games last season, including a standout display at Anfield where he created both goals in a 2–2 draw. Injuries have disrupted his current campaign, but his quality is unquestionable. At 29 in August, he would also bring valuable experience to a squad losing key leaders.

Hugo Bueno – Wolves Wolves are sliding towards relegation and with it could come a summer of departures. While bigger names may headline any exodus, including Joao Gomes and Andre, Bueno is another who could move on.

The former Spain Under-21 international has been Wolves’ best performer this season according to WhoScored, averaging a match rating of 6.76. In total, Bueno has made 31 appearances in all competitions. He is under contract until 2028 so the Molineux club could be open to a sale, with Newcastle United recently linked.
