Leeds United are among a cluster of Premier League clubs tracking Southampton winger Léo Scienza after a standout first season in English football.
Leeds have joined Tottenham, Aston Villa, Fulham and Everton in monitoring the Brazilian, according to ESPN, with his rapid rise since last summer now placing him firmly on the top-flight radar.
It is a familiar market story. A player arrives for a modest fee, delivers immediately, and within months is being chased by clubs higher up the ladder. Leeds are now among the big fish shopping in that market.
Signed cheaply, Scienza is now drawing top-flight attention
Southampton brought Scienza in from Heidenheim on deadline day in September 2025, handing him a four-year contract. The club did not disclose a fee, but reports in Germany placed the deal at £7.8m.
Is Scienza an improvement on James, Gnonto and Harrison?
Leeds are among the PL clubs eyeing the Southampton star.
That looks like sharp business already. Scienza has produced six goals and eight assists in 35 appearances this season, numbers that have pushed him into the spotlight. His display against Arsenal caught the eye.
He might not have got on the scoresheet during Southampton’s quarter-final win over the Gunners, but he was easily the best player on the pitch. He proved to be a thorn in the side of England’s best club.
For a player adjusting to English football for the first time, that level of output is triggering interest. The fact multiple Premier League clubs are now circling underlines how quickly his value has shifted.

From Heidenheim output to English impact, Scienza is on fire
This has not come from nowhere. Scienza registered 17 goal contributions in 40 games for Heidenheim. That productivity has translated, which is often the hardest part of any move into English football.
Southampton describe him as a midfielder, but his role is clear. He operates as a winger or attacking midfielder and is comfortable across both flanks.

That flexibility matters. Clubs are not just looking at raw numbers, but how easily a player can slot into different systems. Scienza ticks that box.
The progression is straightforward. Productive in Germany, effective in England, now attracting Premier League attention.
Leeds interest in Scienza reflects both need and market reality
Leeds being part of this race is no surprise. Their wide options have lacked stability this season. Jack Harrison is out on loan at Fiorentina, while Dan James has again dealt with injury setbacks.
Willy Gnonto remains part of the squad, but he is not a guaranteed starter and previously pushed to leave the club in 2023. That leaves Leeds in a position where attacking depth on the flanks is not fully settled.
Scienza fits the profile of a player who could address that. He offers output, positional flexibility and is already adapted to English football. But Leeds are not operating in isolation.
QUARTER-FINAL 3: Ethan Ampadu or Jayden Bogle?
Who is your Leeds Player of the Season?
Tottenham, Aston Villa, Fulham and Everton being linked underlines the level of competition. This is no longer a low-risk signing at Championship level. It is a contested Premier League market for a player whose stock is rising.
There is also added context. Southampton were the side who beat Leeds in the 2024 Championship play-off final. Now Leeds are looking at one of their key attacking assets less than two years later.
Leeds must act quickly in a crowded race to land Scienza
Scienza was signed for a relatively modest fee less than a year ago. He is now producing in England and attracting sustained Premier League interest. That combination rarely stays under the radar for long.
Leeds have identified him, but so have others. If they believe he can solve a clear issue in wide areas, they will need to move decisively. Waiting is unlikely to make this deal easier or cheaper.
This is how the market works. Spot the rise early, or pay the price later.
