Jorge Mendes working to secure Manchester United transfer – On stand-by, Wolves player preferred

Manchester United’s Manuel Ugarte looks increasingly likely to leave this summer and his future is linked to Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes.

The Uruguayan hasn’t convinced since joining from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024. Since the arrival of Michael Carrick he’s yet to start a game and has hardly figured this season.

SportWitness recently covered interest from Juventus but a deal is likely to be difficult.

This was mainly due to finances, with Manchester United demanding a permanent deal. Juventus were looking for an initial loan, having scouted him during the international break.

Now, Napoli’s interest has emerged but they appear more focused on Wolves’ Joao Gomes.

Mendes helping Ugarte exit

NapoliMagazine’s Emanuele Cammaroto reports on Napoli’s intention to bolster their midfield this summer.

They have been offered a chance to sign Ugarte, with Jorge Mendes working closely to help Manchester United. There is confidence that the 24-year-old will depart Old Trafford and Napoli are following his situation.

However, their interest in the Red Devils player isn’t as a strong as they will now look to target Wolves’ Gomes.

They did attempt to sign Gomes in January and have continued to work on a deal for the player.

This could largely be due to financial reasons. With Wolves pending relegation this could help Napoli get a discount.

Manchester United should accept losses

The longer Manchester United keep Ugarte, the more his valuation will drop. They invested a significant amount in him and ideally will want to make back what they paid PSG.

Italian clubs won’t be able to afford this and that is why the Red Devils should be open to a discount.

Besides, Manchester United want at least two midfielders in the summer. Any money earned will only help with, with Casemiro also leaving at the end of the campaign.

As for Wolves, they might not have much say in Gomes’ future. Their best bet is inciting an auction, which will help them earn as much as possible from his sale.
