Newcastle United have been rocked after learning that Bruno Guimaraes will now miss the trip to Crystal Palace this weekend.
The Magpies paraded the Brazil international in training this week, but an illness on the midfielder's return to the club after a hamstring injury has held him back. It means Bruno will not be in the side against the Eagles and could even miss the crucial home game with AFC Bournemouth.
Despite looking lively in training and being filmed for social media purposes, the Toon ace will not be part of the main event this weekend, according to Howe.
Howe, speaking at his Press conference today, said: "Bruno will not be involved in this game. Probably a doubt over the next game too.
"Bruno suffered from mumps and that has set him back so he will miss this weekend's game and is a doubt for Bournemouth too. No injury, concern the illness stopped him. Maybe the game after. "
And despite positive noises from Howe before the international break on Fabian Schar, the Swiss centre-back has suffered a setback after experiencing an infection in his foot.
It means that Schar could miss out on another month of action accorrding to Howe.
Howe said: "Fabian Schar picked up an infection in his foot so will be out for another month. Lewy [Miley] has trained well and and is back with us."
