Andy Robertson confirming he will leave Liverpool this summer was always going to receive an emotional response from teammates, but Mohamed Salah’s message stood out for a different reason.
It wasn’t just respectful and warm, it was suggestive of what could come next. There was a line tucked in at the end which raises questions that the two departing legends could soon play together again. Interestingly, Salah said that he is ‘sure’ he and Robertson will ‘meet again’.
For two players now firmly in their 30s, time is not exactly on their side. They are entering the autumns of their respective careers whether they like it or not. So, perhaps the Egyptian’s comment is less of a throwaway line and more like something deliberate.
How would you rate Andy Robertson’s trophy-laden Liverpool career?

Salah ‘sure’ he will meet Robertson again
Salah’s tribute was, on the surface, exactly what you’d expect for a teammate of Robertson’s stature.
“With these pictures showing the bond we shared, I almost felt I could get away with saying nothing about you leaving,” the Egyptian posted on X alongside four photographs of the pair playing together at Liverpool.
“It’s been an honour to be your teammate and your friend. You’ve won it all and you leave as a legend. I’m sure we will meet again.”
The final line is the one that lingers. In isolation, it sounds harmless, a polite nod to future encounters in football. But context matters.

Both Salah and Robertson are now in the latter stages of their careers. Opportunities to cross paths on the pitch are limited, especially if they end up in different leagues.
That then raises the obvious question: is Salah hinting that their paths won’t diverge for long? The 33-year-old often speaks somewhat cryptically when posting online, and this feels like it could be one of those moments.
Atletico Madrid, Napoli or Juventus could offer a reunion opportunity
If Robertson’s next move is the key to unlocking this, then the clubs he’s been linked with start to become very interesting. Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Juventus have all been mentioned, and each presents a plausible landing spot for a player of his profile.
Now factor Salah into that equation. Though Saudi Arabia or America feel more plausible, there have already been suggestions that he could return to Italy before his career winds down, and both Napoli and Juventus would fit that narrative.
Which players should Liverpool target to replace Mohamed Salah this summer? 🤔
A seven-man shortlist has already been reported:
Desire Doue
Bradley Barcola
Nico Williams
Yan Diomande
Anthony Gordon
Jarrod Bowen
Michael Olise

Napoli, in particular, have shown a willingness to build around experienced, elite attackers, while Juventus continue to look for statement signings to reassert themselves.
Atletico Madrid feels less obvious for Salah stylistically, but not impossible given Diego Simeone’s pull.
Still, the Italy route stands out. If Robertson heads there, and Salah is already considering a move back to Serie A, then the ‘we will meet again’ line suddenly feels far less sentimental, and far more like a quiet hint at a shared next chapter.
Either way, it will be intriguing to see where two genuine Liverpool legends land this summer.
