Shock Andy Robertson Transfer Pitched

Andy Robertson’s future has taken another turn, with Ally McCoist offering a view that pulls the focus away from Celtic and in a completely different direction.

The Liverpool left-back is set to move on at the end of the season, and that has brought plenty of links with it. A return to Scotland has been one of the main talking points, given his background and long-standing connection to Celtic.

McCoist, a former Rangers player and manager, has taken a different angle. His comments come across as an effort to move the conversation elsewhere rather than add to the growing noise around a Parkhead return.

That tone carried through as he spoke about Robertson’s situation, pointing to his lack of game time at Liverpool and questioning how a player of that level has been left out so often.

He said: (talkSPORT), “Listen, he’s one of my favourite players, Andy Robertson. What a pro, what a player. That’s, in my opinion, one of the mysteries surrounding Liverpool this year, how he’s not had more game time.

“I know Milos Kerkez was a new signing, I get all that. But any time I see Andy Robertson, he’s the same old Andy. He’s down that left flank, totally committed, bundles of quality.

“There was talk of him going to Spurs a few days before the January window closed. And I got asked my opinion on it. I said, ‘I cannot believe he’s not getting more game time with Liverpool.’

“I still can’t believe he’s not getting more game time with Liverpool. So, it would make sense if I was a newly promoted side like Wrexham. What a signing that would be. A leader, played at the top level, at the very, very highest level. Yeah, it would make sense.”

The Wrexham suggestion stands out because of where that club could be heading. If they reach the Premier League, they will need experience quickly. Robertson would bring that, along with the ability to handle big games.

For Celtic, the link hasn’t gone away. Wages and squad balance would still shape any move, with Kieran Tierney having a hugely underrated return season to Glasgow.

There is also the question of what Robertson wants next. A move back to Scotland offers one path. Staying in England at a high level offers another.

McCoist’s comments don’t shut down the Celtic idea. They just show how many different directions this could go if Robertson does leave Liverpool this summer.
