Aston Villa to face European giants in pre-season Hong Kong clash

Teams will meet in repeat of 1982 European Cup final.

Villa will face Bayern Munich in Hong Kong as part of a pre-season tour of Asia.

The teams will meet on Friday August 7 at the Kai Tak Stadium, in what will be Villa’s first match in the territory for 15 years.

Further fixtures are likely to be announced in due course, with Unai Emery’s men making a rare trip to Asia after several summers spent touring the USA.

The match with Bayern, billed as the inaugural Audi football summit fixture, is comfortably the club’s most high-profile friendly for years.

A repeat of the 1982 European Cup final, it will be just the third-ever meeting between the two sides.

Villa boast a perfect record against the German giants, having triumphed in 1982 and in last season’s Champions League, when a Jhon Duran goal was enough to earn a 1-0 group stage victory.

Bayern, managed by Vincent Kompany, are currently on course to win their 35th Bundesliga title and in with a chance of becoming European champions for a seventh time.

They lead Barcelona 2-1 heading into next week’s Champions League quarter-final second leg.

Villa, meanwhile, are well-placed to reach the semi-finals of the Europa League after a 3-1 quarter-final first leg win over Bologna on Thursday night.
