One name that refuses to go away from being linked to Manchester United’s midfield rebuild is Joao Gomes, and now there is an update on his situation.
Ahead of this summer, Joao Gomes is among 24 midfielders linked with Manchester United, after a move in January was seriously considered.
With Wolves set for Championship football next season, it is all but guaranteed that Gomes will be on the move this summer. Due to relegation, Gomes could be ideal for United’s first signing, considering he will be affordable and Wolves have no power to refuse a move.
But ahead of this summer’s midfield revamp, signing Gomes could be more difficult than anticipated.

Matheus Cunha thinks Joao Gomes could be as good as Casemiro
“Maybe Casemiro. He is a bit older now, but I put Casemiro’s name there only to show where Joao Gomes could arrive.
“I think Joao has the possibility to arrive. He is very humble, and he works a lot. The good teams come like a gift when you do that.”

Manchester United face a Joao Gomes transfer battle
Ahead of January, United held talks over a Gomes move, but ultimately, nothing went ahead. But this summer, he remains a target.
According to RTI Esporte in Brazil, Gomes is set to be the subject of a fierce battle this summer for his signature.
Flamengo are one club keeping an eye, although they are aware that the Premier League interest will likely be too much as United, Chelsea, and now Liverpool are all keen.

Liverpool are the favourites to sign Gomes right now, with Gomes interested in a move, although the same can be said for his keenness to move to Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge.
Gomes wants to stay in England, and a quick sale is expected with his wages providing no hurdles, and Wolves are set to slash his asking price from £60m to an expected value of £40m at the most.
United could benefit from Gomes’ arrival as the Brazilian would be a brilliant squad player to back up either Kobbie Mainoo or a new starting number six, such as Carlos Baleba.

Manchester United have Matheus Cunha ace card in Gomes talks
In comparison to other linked midfielders this summer, Gomes is an easy deal to do for United, and it could follow last summer’s move for Matheus Cunha.
United moved early for Cunha, and repeating this would make tons of sense for Ineos to get a midfielder in before the World Cup.
Cunha and Gomes had a great relationship at Wolves, both being Brazilian and friends off the pitch. This could make the forward United’s ace card in this transfer.
United could get Cunha to subtly suggest to Gomes that he join him at Old Trafford, following in his footsteps.
It is a deal that makes a lot of sense at the right price, but only as the second or third midfield addition in terms of the hierarchy.
