The 26-year-old ranks highly among the Premier League’s best defensive midfielders in terms of breaking up play, blocks and interceptions.

But despite having played in the Champions League for Benfica prior to his move to Turf Moor, the Portuguese man is surprisingly limited.

That, Florentino admits, is something he’s looking to improve to make him a better player.

“It changed a bit”, Florentino said of his style to Portuguese podcast Sports Tailors. “I had to become more objective.

"Maybe before I was more conservative on the ball, but here the style is more direct.

“All teams like to press and understand they can go man-to-man. That’s why you see big teams dropping points against smaller sides.

“I want to improve with assists and goals. I know it’s difficult, but why not?”

Florentino has yet to get off the mark in terms of goals, but he does have two assists to his name.

“That’s been the most memorable moment of the season, my assist at Anfield when we drew,” Florentino added.

"It was a very demanding game and to have that impact in a stadium like that gave me a feeling of achievement.”
