**Zian Flemming is having the kind of Premier League season that forces attention, even if [Burnley](https://sportwitness.co.uk/tag/burnley/page/3/) have struggled.**
With eight goals to his name, standout performances and arguably status as Burnley’s best player, his reputation continues to rise.
If he continues to impress, a big move could be on the cards in the summer. But the Dutch attacker is crystal clear about one thing, a move back to the Eredivisie’s top three isn’t automatically an upgrade.
A name on the rise at Burnley
-----------------------------
Zian Flemming’s rise has been anything but linear. He’s gone from Ajax’s academy to PEC Zwolle, NEC Nijmegen and Fortuna Sittard.
He then moved to Millwall for €2.5m in 2022, bagging 23 goals and eight assists in 92 games before Burnley signed him on loan two years later. Last summer, they made the move permanent for €8.3m.
He’s impressed at Turf Moor, bagging 23 goals and four assists in 62 games, including eight in the Premier League this season.
[Speaking to Voetbal International](https://www.vi.nl/pro/zian-flemming-blijft-zijn-grenzen-verleggen-klaar-voor-oranje), he reflected on that current reality and how surreal it feels.
“Sometimes I do stop and think about it,” he said.
“PEC Zwolle loaned me out to NEC, in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. Not so long ago, I was fighting against relegation from the Eredivisie with Fortuna.
“Now I play in stadiums that I used to visit with my parents and brothers during the Christmas holidays.”
With Burnley battling relegation, his performances have sparked speculation about a move. That includes a possible return to the Netherlands. Flemming, though, didn’t shy away from addressing it directly.
“It feels a bit surreal, but the top three in the Netherlands is not a step up at the moment,” he added.
“The Champions League, competing for the title: that certainly is. But the Eredivisie offers, with all due respect, much less resistance than the Premier League. I don’t know, and I’m not ruling anything out. But don’t say: that is a dream move either.”
Premier League ambition takes priority
--------------------------------------
Zian Flemming’s current contract at Burnley runs until 2029, and his intentions are clear. He want’s to stay in the top flight, and keep proving that he belongs there.
“The Premier League has left me wanting more. I would like to play there for years to come,” he concluded.
For that to happen with Burnley, survival is essential. With 10 points currently separating Scott Parker’s side from Tottenham in 17th, that is looking unlikely.
Flemming is clear that he wants to remain in the top flight, with his comments perhaps opening the door for other Premier League sides to make their moves.
