And in a further blow, Fabian Schar has had to undergo minor surgery after suffering with a foot infection and the defender will be forced to miss the bulk of Newcastle's run-in.
But the Magpies will at least be boosted this weekend by the return of Lewis Miley, who is fit to return after his two-and-a-half month absence. And Sven Botman will also be available at Crystal Palace, but the defender will wear a mask to protect his eye socket, which he fractured against Sunderland.
Bruno has recovered from the hamstring injury that sidelined the midfielder since the start of February, but contracted mumps on his return to the UK from Brazil and the illness has delayed his return.
Howe said: "We've had mixed injury news during the break. We certainly look stronger than we did going into the Sunderland game.
"But Bruno suffered from mumps on his return from Brazil. That's delayed his return so he will not be involved in this game and there's a doubt over the Bournemouth game.
"No injury concern, just the illness stopped him doing key work to be considered for this game. It may be the game after but it's important he comes back when he' ready.
"Fabian suffered an infection in his foot so has been in hospital having a very small operation to get that cleaned out, so he won't return for around a month. That's bad news.
"On everybody else we're pretty good. Louie has trained and trained well so that's been good to see because we've missed him massively. Sandro played during the international break and others are in a good place."
