Wolves are reportedly planning to assess Rangers loanee Nasser Djiga next summer in pre-season.

The Burkina Faso international defender arrived at Wolves in a £10million deal 18 months ago, but after making just six appearances at Molineux, Djiga headed to Ibrox on a season-long loan deal last July.

He has been a regular starter for the Light Blues all season despite some early struggles during Russell Martin's ill-fated spell in the dugout.

Danny Rohl 's tenure has seen a major upturn in form for the 23-year-old with some fans hoping Ibrox chiefs will splash the cash on the centre-back in the summer.

Chairman Andrew Cavenagh has promised to invest a further £16million into the club's coffers in the summer as the American owners look to make an impression on the Scottish game.

But the Express and Star report that the towering defender is unlikely to be a Rangers player next season.

They claim Djiga is "expected to return to Wolves this summer to be assessed ahead of next season" with the rock bottom Premier League side facing up to the reality of relegation.

It is claimed that boss Rob Edwards would like to "run the rule" over the Rangers' loanee before deciding his next steps.

Rangers are said to be "unlikely" to fork out the £10million fee Wolves would want for the player as they look to recoup the cash they splash to bring him to Molineux.

Record Sport also understands his massive £70,000-a-week contract at Wolves is likely to prove to be a huge stumbling block in any potential deal.
