Liverpool are still very interested in signing Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller, but will face serious competition for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Peter O’Rourke claimed that Liverpool are challenging Manchester United for Stiller’s signature, alongside Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
He said: “(Stiller) has emerged as one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga since joining Stuttgart from Hoffenheim in 2023.
“He’s a German international too, and I’m sure he will play a key role for Julian Nagelsmann’s side at the World Cup.
“A lot of clubs have looked at Stiller because he’s a defensive midfielder. His reading of the game is second to none.
“There’s been talk of interest from Real Madrid, Inter Milan…Liverpool and Man United have also been linked as well.”

Liverpool could do a lot worse than Stiller
Recent reports have confirmed that Liverpool will sign a defensive midfielder in the summer to finally replace Brazilian destroyer Fabinho after his 2023 move to the Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ittihad.
The move generated £40m, but Liverpool did not replace him with a like-for-like No.6. While signing a proper defensive midfielder must be the priority in the engine room, there is also a need for a player like Stiller.
While the German is fantastic on the ball, he’s also incredible hard working off the ball. This is a trait that has been sorely lacking in Liverpool’s midfield this season.
There will be plenty of competition for his signature, however, with United particularly keen.
TEAMtalk transfer insider Graeme Bailey reports this week: “Manchester United have identified Stuttgart star Angelo Stiller as genuine midfield option ahead of the summer window, with sources confirming to TEAMtalk that the German international has been watched closely throughout 2026.
“Stiller is no stranger to Man Utd‘s recruitment team. The 25-year-old has long been on their radar, with the Red Devils among the clubs keen on him prior to his contract extension with Stuttgart in January 2025.”
Liverpool will have to spend around £50m to sign the 25-year-old, but United and Madrid’s involvement could see that price increase especially if he stars at the World Cup with Germany.
