In recent times Foster had been pushed out to the right flank, ahead of Marcus Edwards who has had to settle for a place on the bench.

But ahead of Saturday’s return to action against Brighton, Parker has defended his player from the recent criticism that has come his way.

“I think, first and foremost, Lyle’s best position is probably down the middle,” he said.

“But I chose to play him off the sides and I think he can do that. I certainly thought his performance against Fulham was a really, really good performance. The work that he does and he puts in for the team was brilliant.

“Like anything, as an attacking player, you're always going to be judged on your goals at certain moments they've not been there for Lyle [he’s scored three clubs goal this season].

“At times, you've probably seen a certain level of confidence in that. But for me, he's someone that brings something to the team, like his speed at certain moments.

“Of course, there's certain elements where his game needs to improve, but I've been nothing but pleased with Lyle in the group.”
