Crushing ACL blow for Leeds United forward – Club taking next steps for rehab

Leeds United’s out-on-loan striker Mateo Joseph has been dealt a huge blow with an ACL injury confirmed by loan club Mallorca this week.

The Whites are fully focused on staying in the Premier League and potentially winning thew FA Cup, so a loan watch is the last thing on Daniel Farke’s mind.

However, he’ll be gutted to learn of a major injury setback to one of the players looking to develop into a potential first team option.

Mateo Joseph is one of those looking to use this season as a chance to develop into a player that could be part of Farke’s long-term plans.

After Joseph started last season as the first choice nine, Joel Piroe quickly wrestled the starting spot off the Spaniard. Following promotion, Joseph made his feelings clear to pursue a loan opportunity, which came via Mallorca in La Liga.

Joseph’s goalscoring exploits haven’t exactly been regular, netting two so far with four assists – his most recent assist being the winner at home to Real Madrid last time out.

What’s not helped him is the sensational form of Vedat Muriqi as the club’s lone striker, scoring 19 league goals this season. It’s forced Joseph to play either as a supporting forward, a right-midfielder, or to come off the bench.

However, the Leeds youngster has been dealt a hammer blow in his development this season. The La Liga club have confirmed a major injury setback this week.

It’s been revealed that Joseph has suffered an injury to his ACL in his knee. He’s now likely set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines – relayed by Graham Smyth:

As a result, Mallorca and Leeds are in contact to determine the next steps for Joseph’s rehabilitation process. Such a setback certainly ends Joseph’s season. Not only that, it is highly likely to see him ruled out well into the 26/27 campaign too.

It’s horrible to see that Joseph’s season has been cut short by such a brutal injury. I guess we’ll have to wait to see the severity of this blow, and where that leaves him going forward.

Of course, it leaves his position at the club up in the air this season. A transfer in the summer looks virtually off the table now.

Hopefully it’s not an injury that completely hampers him from developing into the player many expect him to be.
