Everton moved to sign Jermaine Beckford in May 2010 after the striker put his name up in lights with Leeds United, particularly in the FA Cup.
The Englishman netted five goals in six FA Cup appearances in the 2009/10 campaign, including a strike at Old Trafford to hand Leeds, a League One side at the time, a famous 1-0 win over Manchester United.
Beckford also netted twice against Tottenham in the fourth round of the FA Cup that term, and Everton could now repeat the feat by signing another FA Cup star this summer in Leo Scienza.

Everton want Leo Scienza after FA Cup heroics against Arsenal, but Toffees must be wary of being reactive
ESPN believe Everton are keeping a close eye on Scienza after the Brazilian played a starring role in Southampton’s FA Cup quarter-final win over Arsenal.
The South American tormented Ben White, who Everton admire, down the left flank, helping the Saints record a famous 2-1 win which has set up an exciting semi-final clash against Manchester City at Wembley.
Considering the aforementioned Beckford largely made his way onto the radar of Everton in 2010 thanks to his efforts in the FA Cup, signing Scienza as a result of the Southampton No.13 troubling Arsenal would therefore be a similar move from the Toffees, although The Friedkin Group should be wary of making a reactive decision.
Beckford impressed at times for Everton, netting memorable winners over Liverpool and Chelsea, but failed to nail down a regular spot as he scored just ten goals in 40 appearances before a move to Leicester in August 2011, after just one season at Goodison Park.

Of course, it was an outstanding display from Scienza against Arsenal, one that strongly suggested the 27-year-old could be a star performer in the Premier League.

However, Everton must learn from history and scout the Brazilian for a little longer, before deciding to spend millions on his services.
