Liverpool star Andy Robertson has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham.
Andy Robertson has confirmed he will leave Liverpool when his contract expires, drawing the curtain on an illustrious nine-year spell on Merseyside. He follows Mohamed Salah in announcing his departure ahead of the summer, with Liverpool set to undergo another big change after last year’s mammoth spending spree.
The Scottish left-back, who has made over 350 appearances for the Reds, will become a free agent at the end of the season. The Liverpool star flirted with an exit in January, showing his readiness to join Tottenham Hotspur.
In fact, Spurs and Liverpool had reached a verbal agreement over the transfer of Andy Robertson. The North Londoners were even ready to pay £3 million for his services; however, their efforts failed to yield any result as Robertson decided to stay put at Anfield amid a host of defensive injuries. The left-back’s focus will be on finishing the campaign strongly and helping his Liverpool side clinch a Champions League berth.
Tottenham in pole position to sign Andy Robertson
Knowing that the 32-year-old is leaving Liverpool, several clubs have already begun circling for his services on a free transfer. But, reputed journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic claims that Tottenham are in pole position to sign Robertson. Premier League survival will have to be secured first to land the experienced Scot, though, with Roberto De Zerbi’s Spurs battling relegation.
Clubs such as Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Juventus are keen on snapping up Robertson before the 2026/27 season commences, but Tottenham remain favourites for his signature.
The Lilywhites staying in pole position could be down to the groundwork they did during the winter transfer window. Roberto De Zerbi’s side could secure themselves a bargain if they remain in the Premier League. Having centred their recruitment strategy on bringing in young talent with high potential from around the world over the last few years, adding a bit of experience would be an intelligent move.

Signing Robertson, thus, would make perfect sense, especially at a potential zero cost. An experienced and serial winner like the Scotland international would add quality depth to Tottenham’s left-back depth, whilst mentoring youngsters such as Destiny Udogie and Souza. The Liverpool great’s leadership skills and winning mentality is desperately needed by a Spurs squad that is one of the youngest in the English top flight.
Hopefully, we achieve Premier League safety under De Zerbi’s tutelage and manage to land Robertson in the summer.
