**West Ham leapfrog Tottenham to move out of the relegation zone after thrashing Wolves.**
Getting knocked out of the FA Cup last weekend in the fashion that they did was heartbreaking enough, but the following match against Wolves was always going to be just as, if not more, important. A win would see them move out the relegation zone ahead of Tottenham, leaving them level on points with Forest, and just one behind Leeds.
To say it was a must win would be an understatement. Fortunately, not only did the Hammers walk away with all three points, they did so in style.
Admittedly, it didn’t always seem like it was going to be all that easy. Wolves did have a bright start to the clash, keeping the ball well in the host’s half, but West Ham grew into the affair, albeit clearly feeling the pressure of the occasion.
Shortly before half-time, they managed to take the lead as Bowen’s cross was met by the head of Konstantinos Mavropanos.
This goal clearly gave Nuno’s side the confidence they so desperately needed as they came out from the break looking like a different side. They piled on the pressure, with Summerville and Bowen both coming close to scoring, but it was Taty Castellanos who found the back of the net in the 66th minute following a superb assist from Pablo.
Just two minutes later, Taty doubled his tally for the day, with Bowen providing another assist to put the Hammers in total control.
To make a perfect night even better, Mavropanos once again got himself on the scoreline to finish the game 4-0.
On one hand, it probably wasn’t as one sided as the scoreline suggests, on the other it easily could’ve been more. Either way, it’s a massive win for West Ham and their bid for survival. All the pressure is on Leeds, Forest and, especially, Tottenham – they certainly won’t take any comfort in seeing that sort of performance.
