Goodbye McTominay: Taty Castellanos enters Premier League history books with West Ham feat

There were only 99 seconds between Taty Castellanos’ two goals as West Ham United put rock-bottom Wolves to the sword while recording a 4-0 home Premier League win for the first time since 2023.

Nottingham Forest were the opponents that afternoon, three years ago, when Danny Ings scored twice in a crushing victory over another of Nuno Espirito Santo’s old clubs.

For 2026’s follow-up, it was Taty Castellanos in the Ings role, while Wolverhampton Wanderers took on the position of patsy; pummelled and pulped by a West Ham United side who bared their teeth and made the Wolves look like Pomeranian puppies.

Castellanos netted his first-ever Premier League brace, and in double-quick time.

In doing so – scoring in the 66th and 68th minutes – he became only the third player in recorded history to hit the target twice in less than 100 seconds.

Sadio Mane, still the fastest-ever hat-trick scorer in the Premier League, netted twice in 84 seconds when that thrilling Southampton side put Aston Villa to the sword in 2015.

Gabriel Martinelli achieved the feat inside 90 seconds when Arsenal thrashed Crystal Palace 5-0 last year.

Castellanos, just about sneaking inside the 100-second mark, joins Mane and Martinelli on the podium. He knocks Scott McTominay – who got Man United off to a flyer during a lockdown-era 6-2 battering of Leeds – out of the top three.

“One of the moments they’ll look back on at the end of the season; the match that kept them in the Premier League,” Sky Sports commentator Alan Smith said after the Argentina international completed his blink-and-you-miss-it brace.

“It was so tight in the first-half! Who would’ve thought the Hammers would be 3-0 up [in the 68th minute]?”

“Ever since Michael Antonio dropped out, Jarrod Bowen has sort of been blazing a lone trail at times, so he will be glad of the help. Castellanos will be delighted with his night’s work. He will have wanted to stay on and get the hat-trick!

“He might not score too many more important goals for West Ham than these, just when his team needed a bit of daylight.”

Is he justifying his £27m price-tag now?

Taty Castellanos of West Ham United celebrates scoring their 3rd goal with Crysencio Summerville during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers at London Stadium on April 10, 2026 in London, United Kingdom.

Doubling West Ham’s lead just past the hour, Castellanos slotted under an onrushing Jose Sa following a clever Pablo Felipe flick.

Castellanos loves playing alongside Pablo in an old-school front-two. On a night when his fellow January recruit finally recorded his first ‘goal contribution’ at the eleventh attempt, the former did not need any additional motivation to talk up Pablo’s importance at a time when serious questions were starting to be asked about his impact.

“They’ve given themselves so much hope today. They were aggressive, played a 4-4-2 with Pablo and Taty, very effective,” said Jamie Redknapp, putting his allegiances to one side despite former employers Tottenham crashing into the bottom three.

“Taty, two goals in 99 seconds, incredible.”
