Burnley vs Brighton in the Premier League from Turf Moor - Saturday 3pm
Brighton have big decision to make on midfielder Diego Gomez for today’s clash at Burnley.
The Paraguay international has been excellent for Fabian Hurzeler this term. The 23-year-old has five goals and one assist from 28 Premier League outings this term and has played in a variety of positions.
Gomez has played on both flanks this season as both Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh and have struggled with form and fitness at times throughout the campaign.
However, Minteh looked back to his best just prior to the international break and Mitoma scored an excellent goal for Japan against England last time out.
If Mitoma and Minteh play, Gomez could be deployed in the attacking the midfield role as Jack Hinshelwood manages a “small issue” with his knee.
Hinshelwood trained the week and Hurzeler declared that he is available to face Burnley but whether he is fit to start is another matter. Georginio is also pushing.
Gomez is in ‘great shape’
“Yeah, I think he [Gomez] is in great shape at the moment,” said Hurzeler to Sussex World.
“He proved it also when he was away for Paraguay. He played some really good games and therefore he finds a good balance between giving us a defence stability and also giving us something special when we attack the opponent.
“So therefore he plays in a position, he played with his former club Inter Miami. He played more like right and left wing and he feels very comfortable there.
“But we also know and I also know that he can give us a lot when he plays in the centre mid position, especially now when Kaoru and Minteh are both available.
“This can be definitely an option for us.”
Meanwhile Solly March who picked up a “muscular issue” after his recent return from lengthy knee issues, could be an option at Turf Moor.
Hurzeler said: “Yeah, I think he [March] will be an option. He trained really good.
“Like I said, it's very important to be patient with him, but he's showing some really good things in training sessions.
“He looks sharp, so therefore I'm quite convinced that he is a good option for tomorrow.”
