Everton had two members of the Ancelotti family at Goodison Park from December 2019 to June 2021.
Davide Ancelotti – the son of Carlo Ancelotti – accompanied his father to Merseyside, where he would lead training sessions at Finch Farm along with Duncan Ferguson.
Various reports even claimed the Italian was offered the chance to manage Everton after Frank Lampard was sacked in January 2023, although Ancelotti has now revealed to Football Daily that he came close to taking over at Rangers in 2025.

Ex-Everton man Davide Ancelotti almost went to Rangers
The 36-year-old said: “Yeah, it (Rangers) was a club that I had conversations with. There is an interview process as always now in modern football where you have to go through.
“I went through this process well, but then at the end they have to pick one, and they didn’t pick me. But the process went well and the relationship with the club is good, and I appreciate the fact that they considered me for the job.”
Rangers ultimately opted to hire Russell Martin, a terrible move which lasted just 17 games. Danny Rohl has since taken over and has impressively guided the Glaswegian giants to just a point off the Scottish Premiership summit.

Ancelotti did eventually receive his first opportunity as a Head Coach when Botafogo handed him the reins in July 2025, but the man born in Parma only lasted until December.
The former Bayern Munich and Real Madrid coach is now back working under his father as assistant manager of the Brazil national team, where Ancelotti – who enjoyed managing alongside Ferguson – could make history with his son by guiding the South Americans to a record sixth World Cup success this summer.

Should that happen and Davide Ancelotti adds another string to his bow in the world of football coaching, who knows whether the Italian may return to Everton one day to take up the hotseat his father vacated in 2021.
