Newcastle United transfers: Eddie Howe has provided some insight into the meeting that decided Kieran Trippier’s future at the club.
Kieran Trippier is set to leave Newcastle United when his contract expires at the end of the season.
A statement released by the club last week confirmed that Trippier’s four-and-a-half year spell at St James’ Park would come to an end in the summer, leaving the 35-year-old free to find a new club.
Trippier has made over 150 appearances for Newcastle since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2022. He has helped the club twice qualify for the Champions League while also ending a 70-year domestic trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup last season.

Kieran Trippier confirms upcoming NUFC departure
The right-back has already hinted that he has ‘a few things’ lined up this summer as he prepares to become a free agent for the first time in his career.
“That will get sorted when it gets sorted, I just want to focus on Palace and the remaining games ahead to give my all as I always have for the football club. Whatever happens in the future will happen and I'm excited for that."

When asked about the announcement of Trippier’s departure during the international break, Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe said: “Kieran has handled himself superbly during this period. He came to see me, he had a clear vision of what he saw his future looking like.
“We respected that and wanted him to get his best reception and reaction after his time here. For me he goes down as one of the best players that's played for me without a doubt.
“He's been a model of consistency, behind the scenes that will to win. He's been a really good leader, he deserves all the plaudits and we hope he finishes the season on a high.”
Newcastle still have seven games left to play as they look to salvage a faltering season that has them currently sitting 12th in the Premier League table and out of all the cup competitions.
Despite announcing his departure, Trippier is still expected to play a role and has reiterated his commitment to the club until his contract expires.
“You’ll get 100% from me,” Trippier said. “I'm really attached to Newcastle. It's going to be really sad after the Fulham game but of course I'm going to follow the club, follow the manager, and I can come back whenever I can to watch the games and support the lads.
“I just hope this club can push even further and win more silverware.”
Newcastle face a trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday (2pm kick-off) as they look to bounce back from a derby defeat to Sunderland prior to the international break. European qualification is still a possibility for the Magpies as they sit four points off the top seven and seven points off the Champions League places.
