The Clarets return to action this afternoon with a home clash against Brighton, looking to inject some much-needed positivity after a tough run in the league.

Sitting 10 points adrift of safety with only seven games remaining, Parker’s side looked destine to suffer immediate relegation back to the Championship.

After a solid start, things soon collapsed around November/December time – and Burnley currently find themselves in the midst of a miserable run of just one league win from their last 22 games.

Despite the season looking like it will end in failure, the Clarets boss believes his side haven’t been a million miles away.

When asked if it would be too simplistic to label this season a complete failure, Parker replied: “I think it is, but I think that's the way everyone's going to see it.

“Everyone's always going to just see it as Burnley have, if this was the case, Burnley have not stayed up. It's been an absolute disaster of a season. Wholesale, everything needs to change. Knock the training ground down, restart everything. Let's all start from scratch.

“Of course, we have definitely fallen short in certain moments. In certain games, we've fallen way short, Everton, Brighton, parts of certain games.

“But Fulham, we played brilliant against Fulham. We're going to Fulham away, they're a very good side and we played really, really well. First half, really, really well. Should easily be one up, create good opportunities.

“Second half, get our nose in front and then we have a spell when, what was it, five, six minutes and we’re 2-1 down.

“There's been these little tiny moments at this present moment in time that we've just fallen a little bit short on.

“Of course, this year has been disappointing and it's not been what we've wanted to date. But like I always say, you got over that. You work out where the problems were and where we can learn from it and try and rebuild from there.”
