Bruno Fernandes breaks silence on two important Premier League legends ahead of Man Utd vs Leeds United

Bruno Fernandes has shown his admiration towards Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, as the Manchester United captain continues to chase their all-time Premier League assist feat.

Thierry Henry set the Premier League assist record in the 2002-03 season after the Arsenal and France legend grabbed an impressive 20 assists for the Gunners.

Fast-forward from Henry’s record-setting feat and ex-Manchester City ace Kevin De Bruyne would match his milestone during the 2019-20 Premier League season.

Bruno Fernandes is now in a race to either equal or eclipse Premier League legends De Bruyne and Henry before the end of Manchester United’s 2025-26 season.

Eight of Fernandes’ 16-assist haul in the Premier League season have come in the first 10 matches of Michael Carrick’s reign as interim Man Utd head coach.

Fernandes broke his silence ahead of the Leeds United match and the Portugal and Man Utd midfielder hailed the impact of Henry and De Bruyne in the Premier League.

“Obviously, the other two names you said have been considered by people as the greatest of the Premier League,” he told United Review, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“Thierry Henry is probably the player that comes up there with Cristiano Ronaldo most of the time, and Kevin, everyone knows what he’s achieved, how much he gave to the Premier League and how good he was.

“I’m very grateful to be up there with these kinds of players.”

Fernandes has also eclipsed England icon Sir David Beckham for the Man Utd player to have completed the most Premier League assists in a single season at the club.

Fernandes is now only three assists away from matching Mesut Ozil’s 2015-16 feat at Arsenal and the United ace is thrilled with where he currently ranks alongside other names.

“Seeing your name up there with them is great,” he said.

“It’s fantastic. It’s a massive feeling, a very good feeling, but it doesn’t change much in terms of what I want.

“The assists came as they did, and I think the way I created the chances has always been the same, not just this year, but now everyone is more positive, everyone is getting more goals, also from the team.

“So, it adds up that if I create more, I will get more assists because they’re scoring the goals.”

Man Utd are back in Premier League action for the first time since the March international break on Monday evening, with Leeds United visiting Old Trafford.
